Trudi Latour, Director/Producer, 2003, 7:40min
A critical short video about the start of Australia’s involvement in the Iraq war, produced in collaboration between the filmmaker Trudi Latour and visual artist Geoff Buchan. It documents the process of painting the scene captured by the camera in January 2003, when the world’s biggest warship, the USS Abraham Lincoln rested in Fremantle harbour to go on from Afghanistan to Iraq. The work juxtaposes the ominous warship in the background and its implications with the community event of the “Cottesloe Classic Mile”, a swimming event in which the 80 year old father of the painter is the oldest participant. The video incorporates commentary by the painter and music by Broome musician Jimmy Chi
